Introduction: Dr. John R. Parks Instructor at the Golf Academy of America - Arizona Campus PE:251 - Anatomy, Biomechanics, Exercise Graduated in 1972 from Salem College, West Virginia with a degree in Physical Education and Biology. I played football and after college had a free-agent tryout with the NY Jets. While playing semi-professional football a knee injury ended my career hopes. For the next year and half time I was a fitness instructor at European Health Clubs in N.J. Deciding I wanted to advance my career I attended N.Y. Chiropractic College. After graduating in 1977 I began private practice in Somerville, N.J. I was hired as the Team Chiropractor at Somerville High School. At that time I was the only chiropractor who was employed by a high school in the state. Dr. Stover, an orthopedic surgeon, who was familiar with my work, invited me to be a guest lecture at Rutgers University. I was invited to be a lecturer to area high school coaches to teach prevention of sports injuries. Being an ex-athlete I needed to take up a sport and golf was my choice, after the urging of coach and now golf teaching pro, Jerry Moore, also my best friend, I began studying the swing mechanics and found myself treating my clubs teaching pros. After 7 years with the high school and being introduced to golf I decided to move to Phoenix, mainly because of the weather and golf. I began a private practice in 1984 and was also an instructor at the Phoenix Therapeutic Massage College. There I taught kinesiology and sports injury care and prevention. My knee injury finally caught up with me and I had to have total knee reconstruction. This required a year of rehabilitation. I returned to work at a back rehabilitation center where worked with a physical therapist to develop an exercise program for back pain. I returned to private practice and in 1994 and continued my studies and developing an exercise program for golf, my true passion. I participated in the Re/Max long drive contest and researched the physics of the golf swing and club design with an engineer at Golf Smith through his information and software program I learned the effects of club modification and what is needed to improve driving distance. It's with this background and passion that I feel qualified to help those interested in improving their game with conditioning and training their body while improving skills with a teaching professional As a licensed health care provider Dr. Parks is qualified to perform evaluations and examinations that detects deviations of motor functions: muscles, joints and nerves. His studies are centered on how the body moves and is able to assist in finding solutions to restore functional abilities as much as possible as well as treating chronic pain conditions. |
